About this app

Session is a private messenger offering privacy, anonymity, and security. With end-to-end encryption, no phone numbers for sign-up, and decentralisation, Session is a messenger that truly keeps your messages private and secure.

Session uses a powerful decentralised network of servers to route your messages, making it impossible for anyone to leak or sell your data. And with Session’s private routing protocols, your messages are completely anonymous. No one ever knows who you’re talking to, what you’re saying, or even your IP address.

Privacy is the default when you use Session. Every message is encrypted, every time. We take your privacy seriously — Session gives you a safe, private place to chat with your friends, family, or anyone in the world.

• Fully anonymous account creation: No phone number or email is needed to create a Session ID
• Decentralised server network: No data breaches, no central point of failure
• No metadata logging: Session doesn't store, track, or log your messaging metadata
• IP address protection: Your IP address is protected using a specialised onion routing protocol
• Closed groups: Private, end-to-end encrypted group chats for up to 100 people
• Secure attachments: Share voice snippets, photos, and files with Session's secure encryption and privacy protections
• Free and open-source: Don’t take our word for it — check Session's code yourself

Session is free as in free speech, free as in free beer, and free of ads and trackers. Session is built and maintained by the OPTF, Australia’s first privacy tech not-for-profit organisation. Take back your online privacy today — download Session.

I'll change my review if session releases an update. A bug has occurred in the app and it instantly closes and claims there was a bug. I believe it was caused because suddenly every single deleted chat came back. I believe having so many chats breaks the app or uses up so much memory that it can't open. I cant delete the chats if I can't open the app. Guess I have to make a new one.

I love this app! Lousy ratings for it? Come on! This app is the best security conscious communicator available. In. The. World. #2 is Signal. Signal requires a phone number. Session does not. Signal is centralized. Session is not. The app organization is good. The colors are good. The format is simple. I can even make calls. It syncs with my desktop. What more do you want for the most secure, the most private communicator? Free? Wait, it is free. Shout out to the developers!

Came looking for an anonymous alternative to Signal. Everything about the app seems to work great except one fundamental flaw - notifications. Unless the app is the active app, notifications don't work. Even with the Google delivery option enabled. Signal notifications work perfect. Too bad really, because Session has so much going for it, but without reliable notifications it is quite useless to me. If the problem is fixed I will try again!

We appreciate your review. We're aware of the notification issue and a fix is on the way. Meanwhile, try Fast Mode for immediate notifications and ensure your Session app is up-to-date. Don't forget to verify your notification settings as well. Our team is devoted to refining this feature.
